Why would I need a dental second opinion?

Common reasons include a large or expensive treatment plan (root canal, crown, multiple fillings, implants, full-mouth work), a recommendation that doesn't match your symptoms, a proposed extraction when you want to save the tooth, or a new dentist recommending substantially more work than your previous one.

Is the reviewing dentist independent from my current dentist?

Yes. toothcheck reviewers are licensed dentists with no financial relationship to the treating practice. Reviewers are compensated on a flat basis per review — not based on whether additional procedures are recommended — which removes the incentive to upsell.
